CNN, Eason Jordan : la politique dévore une relation à construire
J'arrive sans doute un peu tard pour évoquer l'affaire Eason Jordan, ce chef de l'information de CNN poussé à la démission par une armée de blogueurs suite à ses propos tendancieux sur l'armée américaine.
Je ne sais pas si en tant qu'observateurs français, nous sommes bien placés pour commenter la chose, tant elle semble politisée. Après avoir lu de nombreux articles et billets sur le sujet, j'ai le sentiment qu'il s'agit moins d'un conflit latent entre blogueurs et journalistes qu'une guérilla médiatique très fortement politisée. Comme pour l'affaire Dan Rather, on a ici affaire à des weblogs conservateurs qui se considèrent en guerre et ne supportent donc pas que l'on spolie l'armée. CNN était dans leur viseur depuis quelques temps déjà.
Bref... Ce que je voulais surtout souligner ici, c'est le retour de M. Bertrand Pecquerie, cet énigmatique et très éloquent personnage qui s'était exprimé à mes côtés lors des coulisses du blog consacrées aux rapports weblogs / journalisme. Il avait alors été très virulent contre les blogs, qui menaient selon lui une guerre contre le journalisme dans laquelle ils se montraient particulièrement arrogants et vindicatifs. Sans doute cet épisode lui donne un minimum raison. Mais il est aussi pour lui l'occasion de faire enfler sa colère, de désigner son camp.
Dans un texte sur l'affaire Eason Jordan, il estime que les blogueurs sont "les descendants du sénateur McCarthy". La démission de Jordan fait du 12 février "un jour triste pour la liberté d'expression en Amérique et pour le futur du blogging".
"Il est inquiétant de voir ce nouveau mariage entre ceux qui s'auto-proclament 'médias des citoyens' et ceux qui chassent les scalps des journalistes de la presse grand public".
Et plus loin...
"Real promoters of citizen media would have to take some distance with those who have fueled and organised the Eason Jordan hatred. If not, the "new era of journalism" opened by the blogosphere will appear as the old clothes of American populism".
Il a beau être trop virulent et démonstratif pour que je l'appuie totalement, je n'arrive pas à être en désaccord avec lui. Le sentiment, désagréable, que la politique est en train de dénaturer et salir l'émergence médiatique des blogs, persiste. Et me laisse une sale impression.
Poynter rappelle que le blogueur à l'origine de la controverse et Jeff Jarvis de Buzz Machine partagent un même sentiment mitigé sur cette "victoire". Trop de blogueurs considèrent le journalisme comme un ennemi. Alors que (comme le disait Cyril Fiévet lors de la conférence évoquée ci-dessus), il y aurait tellement plus à tirer de travailler ensemble.
